Plasma ion tweeters are an evolution the “singing arc”, invented by William Duddells 1900. He basically reworked a carbon arc lamp – which were known for being fairly noisy.
Now, William found that by varying the voltage to the arc, it changed the sound that was produced…. Bingo.
Much later a fellow by the name of Siegfried Klein got involved and tuned it by putting the arc in a small quartz tube. Coupling this to a horn, he was able to produce a speaker and even a microphone.

I just love creativity in music. We ran a story on the Kasio Kristmas music and the Gadget Orchestra, but this one in particular is simply amazing. It’s Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody ‘played’ entirely with old computer junk.
No effects or sampling were used in this song, basically the sound is coming from the devices that you can see in the video:

Brother Cesare Bonizzi is a Capuchin Monk who was born in 1946 in Italy. He has always used music as a way of spiritual meditation, but one day he saw Metallica in concert and he was changed forever.
He formed a band called “Fratello Metallo” (“Metal Brother”), a heavy metal band saying that “Metal is the most energetic, vital, deep and true musical language that I know.”

Phil, Phil, Phil. It looks like after the mistrial that was ruled in his first trial, he’s finally been convicted of shooting and killing actress Lana Clarkson.
Phil, the guy who invented the “Wall of Sound” production technique was picked up by police in 2003 after the actress was found dead in his house mansion. She had gone home with Phil after meeting him at a nightclub that she worked at.
