Despite the rumors that KISS stands for Knights in Satan’s Service and the on-stage stunts of the American rock band KISS (such as vocalist/guitarist Gene Simmons’ fire-breathing), a lot of songs are centered on the theme of love.
Mind you, this post doesn’t include the love songs that don’t have “love” in the title. It also doesn’t include the songs from the band members’ solo albums.
Many of the songs are fast. These “love” songs can be about love, sex, and rock n’ roll.
Below are KISS’ 20 loving” songs that feature the word love in the title.
1. Love Theme from KISS (1974, from the debut album Kiss). This one is instrumental but the title includes the magic word. It was a collaborative effort by Kiss members.
2. C’mon and Love Me (1975, from the album Dressed to Kill). It was written and sung by guitarist Paul Stanley. Paul Stanley is one of the founding members. KISS was formed in 1970. Both Dressed to Kill and KISS received Gold status.
3. Love Her All I Can (1975, from Dressed to Kill). Love Her All I Can was also written and sung by Paul Stanley.
4. Do You Love Me? (1976, from Destroyer) was co-written by Paul Stanley.
5. Calling Dr. Love (1977, Rock and Roll Over) was written and sung by vocalist/guitar-player Gene Simmons. Coincidentally, Rock & Roll Over is also a rock song from the rock band Mr. Big. It is featured in the band’s debut album Mr. Big. It was written by front man Eric Martin.
6. Love ‘Em and Leave ‘Em (1977, Rock and Roll Over) was also written and sung by Gene Simmons.
7. Makin’ Love 1977 (Rock and Roll Over) was co-written by Paul Stanley and is the final “loving” song from the album. It is also the last track of Rock and Roll Over.
8. Love Gun (1977, Love Gun)is also the name of the album. The song was written by Stanley. The album features two more love songs: I Stole Your Love and Got Love for Sale
9., 10. I Stole Your Love was written by Stanley and the latter was penned by Simmons. As a pattern, KISS doesn’t have one leading man. The writer of the song almost always performs vocals as well.
Note that 1978 saw the release of 4 solo albums, one by each member. Albums were named after their names.
11. I Was Made for Lovin’ You (1979, Dynasty) remains to be one of KISS’s most famous songs. This fast number was co-written by Paul Stanley. The song reached number 1 in many countries, including Australia, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Canada and Belgium.
12. Save Your Love (1979, Dynasty) was written and sung by guitarist Ace Frehley. 1980’s Unmasked didn’t feature any “love” songs, neither did the 1981 album Music from “The Elder” .
13. I Love It Loud (1982, Creatures of the Night) is a fast, concert favorite. It was co-written by Simmons.
14. I Still Love You (1982, Creatures of the Night) was co-written by Stanley.
15, 16. Asylum After 2 albums that didn’t feature any love-titled songs, KISS released Asylum. Asylum features 2 love songs: Love is a Deadly Weapon (co-written by Simmons & Stanley, performed by Simmons) and Radar for Love (co-written and sung by Stanley).
17. Prisoner of Love (1989, Hot in the Shade) was co-written and sung by Simmons.
18. Love’s a Slap in the Face (1989, Hot in the Shade) was co-written by Simmons and Stanley, and sung by Simmons.
19. You Love Me to Hate You (1989, Hot in the Shade) was co-written and sung by Paul Stanley. The song’s other writer was Desmond Child, a successful songwriter and producer who contributed to other albums of KISS as well.
20. Tough Love (1992, Revenge). As it is obvious by now, Kiss is one of the most productive rock bands in music history, as Revenge was their 16th studio album. And Paul Stanley is one of the most efficient rock songwriters. Yeah, he co-wrote Tough Love.
KISS’ productivity slowed down after Revenge. As the following album, Carnival of Souls: The Final Sessions came out in 1997. It was swiftly followed by Psycho Circus a year later but the album after that was released in 2009.
The band is currently working on another album. KISS has been a best-selling hard-rock band for over 3 decades now. The band went through line-up changes and long breaks but they are still ready to rock a stadium near you.
