Let’s speed up that hearing loss – concert volume at home

Don’t feel like dealing with the crowds, $8 beer, long lines, some idiot in front of you and crappy seats?  Why not just bring the concert to your home!

These 1400W speakers made by Professional Home Cinema are made to "produce concert-level sound in the home"…  Really.

The SCR-12 speakers are $4000 each and are capable of producing the huge dynamics and massive volume levels of a concert PA system in a home theater. They use digital signal processing (DSP), high-resolution frequency response shaping, and time-alignment to produce a maximum output of more than 130 decibels.

Just to put 130 decibels into persepctive:

Near total silence – 0 dB
A whisper – 15 dB
Normal conversation – 60 dB
A lawnmower – 90 dB
A car horn – 110 dB
A jet engine – 120 dB

.. and I’m sure your audiologist will tell you that any sound above 85 dB can cause hearing loss .

Although these speakers look like they can produce a massive sound, they are still fairly compact – 24x15x12 inches. Complete 5.1 channel systems are available for the low, low price of $30,000 and up.

Although these aren’t necessarily the loudest speakers in the world , its a really interesting sales pitch !
