Our original frequency hearing test continues to receive great comments on a daily basis. After a certain number of comments, the post can get too large and cause the page to load slowly. To avoid this, new comments posted there will continue on this page . . .
You can also view the new hearing test (MP3 sound files have been replaced with WAV sound files).
I’m 13 (14 this dec), and I can hear up to and including 21kHz (but with difficulty starting from 18kHz). Probably due to poor quality of earphones.
34 atm. 17k is comfortable. For 18k I need to put the volume high to hear, 19k is borderline with Amp maxed, I feel more of a pain in the ears than hear it.
Setup: FiiO Andes Dac/Amp + Beyerdynamic 770 Pro/Sennheiser HD 600.
I am 12, and the most I can hear is 17 kHz, and that’s for people under 18. I think thats not good.
I’m 22, I can hear up to 18 khz, but you know how internet sound files can be distorted, and the quality of speakers/headphones account for the result, but using Audacity and decent quality speakers/headphones, I can hear up to at least 19 khz.
I’m 22, singer in a rock band. My band mates (full blood musicians, all between 40 and 50 years old) love to play a bit louder than necessary during practice which sometimes leaves me with a weird buzzing in my ears afterwards. My mum always keeps bugging me to get in-ears with filters to protect my hearing and even though I think she’s right, those things are rather expensive. She finally has me a bit worried though, which is why I ended up on this site.
Anyway… I first could only hear up to 20 with my old laptop. After plugging in my Sennheiser headphones however, and turning up the volume to 85% I could hear all of them without effort. I can even hear most of them while the person next to me is using the headphones.
Is it just me or does the sound-sample for 22khz sound a little low and kind of distorted?
I’m 27 and I can hear up to 17 kHz.
Although I am not sure if my laptop could not handle such frequencies higher than 17KHz.
But I am pretty sure I could hear only up to 17 KHz when I downloaded a similar wav file into my cellphone, then played it when it was dead silent one night. Maybe I should re-convert my song collection up to 17KHz only just to save space..
I’m 17 and I can hear up to 19khz
I can hear all of them up to 22khz perfectly fine, not even faint. Haven’t found any tests over 22khz but I’m eager to try it. I always knew I have great hearing.
Im 40 and can only hear 10khz with my left ear and 12khz with my right.
17 and I can hear all of it. *Amazed O.O
Every piece of software (cooledit, VLC, Winamp) and both my Nvidia HDMI and Motherboard THX audio outputs mess up the playback of the high-frequency (>17Khz) tones.
I know from previous tests that I can’t hear above 18.5Khz, but I can clearly hear the 20Khz from this site because of the resulting lower frequency distortions.
Conclusion: you can’t just download these tones and play them back on the your computer reliably, the hardware and software cause distortions in the tone which are lower frequency than the original files and hence highly audible.
Also the tones need to be tapered to stop the annoying click at the beginning and end of the tone.
I’m 24 now and i hear 26 kHz with no problems
People, these test are very subjective.
First of, the acoustic of you room will change everything.
Second, speakers and headphones have different frequency ranges, and will also have tip and dips in the frequency bands. Meaning that for a certain headphone/speaker compare to the others, it might reproduce a lot more of a frequency than an other, and might have a strong dip at an other. Which is not helped (worsen) by the room acoustic.
Third, there’s the body from the start. Not everyone is born with the same hearing proficiency. Some will NEVER hear over 15KHZ no matter how young or old they are.
So don’t get to much rave or anger about this product.
Wow! 14 years old and only 14 Khz
Lol, being young and metal sure has left its marks.
22, and anything beyond 16khz is plain silence 🙁
I’m 21 and can just make out 17. Less clubbing methinks.
I’m 50 and I can hear up to 21kHz; 22 is inaudible, though. Never spent much time protecting my hearing. It may be relevant that all members of my immediate family, including my 75 year old mother, can hear up to 21kHz, too.
You guys may not be able to hear it because of your speakers. They may not be able to produce such a high frequency.
16 years old, musician and could only hear up to 15kHz
I can actually hear all the way to 22khz.. well, 22khz being almost nothing. I’m 18 years old (sept10).
I am wearing headphones and I think that’s how the test is usually done.
I also don’t have the best eyesight there is and have to wear glasses to see things that are far away.
I’m 26 and I can hear them all. I have always had loud stereos in my car and i’m a mechanic around loud noises all day
I’m 46, a singer and used to be a writer, producer and post production engineer. I can hear up to 14K at moderate volume (to my ears). I can no longer engineer effectively so need to rely on my memory of eqing tracks rather than hearing them properly. As originally said, this is an unscientific test but it does give everyone who tries it a bit of an idea of their hearing abilities. I suffer from severe tinnitus because back in the 80s when I started out being in bands, no-one ever advised or warned us about the damage we were doing. In this day and age there’s no excuse, all you people out there who can hear well or not, STOP listening to music so loud and START protecting your ears. HEARING DAMAGE is PERMANENT and IRREVERSABLE! As another poster said, we can only wait until stem cell technology advances sufficiently to have any hope of repairing our damaged hearing. That may take decades.
Its going fast now! Almost reversible
Im 24 and I could hear up to 18, but when I put earphones on I can hear the rest even though 22 is really faint I can still make it out, I guess having my ipod on full blast for years and standing next to the amps at metal gigs didnt do as much damage as I thought 😀
I’ve just turned 16 in December and I can barely hear the 16 one. I feel terrible now.
Geez I really don’t like this test it hurts my ears. I am 14 and i can hear them all :-)- barely on some of them though…. 😛
I’m 32 and can hear only up to 15kHz
24 and last one i could hear is 14khz and i dont listen to music at all
I turned 27, 15kHz is loud and clear for me, beyond that I can barely “feel” it, all it comes out of my headphone is “click” sound when it starts and ends. I’m a multi musician-ist, been singing in choir since I was 3 and play piano, violin, clarinet and flute. I am too lazy to crank up the volume or my cat will start complaining. I guess the file format and sound card/ amp/ speaker/ headphone combo does play a role.
Im 16 and i can easly hear the 22k
Strange. I can´t hear the 20 or 21 kHz, but i can hear the 22 kHz. I´m 16 by the way.
I’m 25 and can hear 14khz. At 15, I can hear it when my right ear is turned towards the screen but not the left. My husband is 26 and can hear up to 18khz.
I’m Larry and i turned 15 and i went all the way to 21!!!!!
I am about to turn 24. I can hear 12KHz in my left and 15KHz in my right then they cut out (respectfully). I have terrible hearing due to many ear infections as a child.
im 17 and i cud here all of them but when i got to twenty after that i only cud here it in one ear lol donno if that bad or anythink
26 years old and 16Khz was the last I heard.
I’m 21, I can hear them all up to 21 and then I can hear a little the 22 but it doesn’t sound loud and I couldn’t recognize any note in it.
I’m 23, I can hear all except 22
I am 55, a lot of rock concerts, i can hear the 14db
I just turned 18 and I can hear up to 19 kHz. I think I might have been able to hear 20 kHz, but I’m sticking with 19.
Most of the time I have my earbuds in with the music up fairly loud.
it cuts off at 18 for me but i hear 21 im 17 is this good?
Almost 40 age: 15 Khz is annoying buzz, 14khz kills my ears.
And i HAVE mild hearing loss.
16 yearsold. can’t hear past 18.
i herd up to 21 and i am 34. You young people play your music way to loud. You are going to pay for it later in life. You just wait. Teach you to turn your music down.
i can hear all of them!
Wow, I’m shocked. I’m 39 and I can hear all the way up to 20 and felt like I was at least sensing something at 21 and 22. I’m surprised because I haven’t really taken as good care of my hearing as I could have. Yay!
Im 25 and can hear 19khz with the speakers up quite loud. But just checked my speakers frequency range and its 53Hz to 20kHz so i think this would mean my speaker couldn’t even produce the 20khz frequency ?
I’m 21, turning 22, with kind of bad hearing and I was born with tinnitus. I can hear up to 15 VERY clearly (they all make me twitch and my blood goes cold, oddly enough), but past that, nothing. I’ve never had very good hearing, however, and my tinnitus is bad enough to give me headaches, so I’m not a very awesome example. I never listen to anything very loudly, though I did damage one eardrum a couple of years ago when I had a bad ear infection and my eardrum burst on me. Good job, me.
All in all, I’m not at all surprised that my hearing isn’t great. I’m actually surprised that I’m sort of average.
I’m 39 and the only tone that I cannot hear is 1600 KHz. This probably has more to do with my sound card than my ears……
I’m 14 and could hear all of them except 19kHz. Otherwise, i could DEFINITELY hear all the other frequencies; thy were very high-pitched and annoying.
