Thelonius Monk’s advice to musicians

Posted on December 28th 2008

Thelonious Sphere Monk was born in 1917 and died on February 17, 1982. He was a pianist and composer from the US, but above all was considered to be one of the most important musicians in jazz.

He had a very unique style, and many people regard him as the originator bebop.

Below is a reprint of some of his advice for musicians that played with him (click on it to enlarge):

I’ve never seen this from any musician let alone Monk, one of the greats. This is stuff most musicians don’t think about – and they should.
