2006 — Coldplay front man Chris Martin’s daughter Apple was born. The mother is the established actress/new singer Gwyneth Paltrow.
2005 — Bluegrass singer Jimmy Martin passed away.
2004 — American jazz singer/actress Norah Jones’ Come Away With Me became the number one album.The record went on to sell over 20 million copies. On a fun note, Norah Crush’s (celebrity)crush is Jon Bon Jovi, although she usually has a thing for drummers.
2004 — British (folk) rocker David Gray canceled his shows in Hong Kong and Singapore because of the outbreak of the SARS virus.
2003 — English new wave/pop band Duran Duran had a live concert at Los Angeles’ Tower Records.
2003 — Led Zeppelin reunited for a New York concert. Drums were played by John Bonham’s son Jason. John Bonham had passed away in 1980.
1998 — Frank Sinatra passed away in Los Angeles. He was 82.
1997 — American jazz singer and actress Thelma Carpenter passed away.
1984 — 19th Academy of Country Music Awards took place in Alabama.
1976 — The Yardbirds singer/harmonica player Keith Relf passed away. He was 33, and playing the guitar (in the shower) when he died (from electrocution).
1973 — Irish pop band B*Witched singer Sinead O’Carroll was born.
1973 — Pop singer Shanice was born.
1968 — The Beatles announced the formation of the Apple Corps- Beatles’ own multi- media company.
1967 — Musician Craig Braginsky was born. His soundtrack credits include True Romance.
1966 — Rocker Mike Inez was born. Inez played with Heart, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Label Society, and Alice in Chains.
1966 — Milli Vanilli singer Fabrice Morvan was born. Remember the pop band who didn’t actually sing their own songs?
1962 — Poison lead guitarist C.C. Deville was born. His actual name? Bruce Anthony Johannesson. I know, C.C. Deville is much cooler.
1962 — The Cult singer Ian Astbury was born.
1962 — Dutch pop drummer Martin Rongen was born.
1959 — Jazz musician Sydney Bechet passed away.
1959 — Bill Haley & the Comets’ rock n’ roll classic “Rock Around the Clock” entered the top 40.
1956 — British rocker, Marillion singer, Steve Hogarth was born.
1953 — Canadian rocker Tom Cochrane was born.
1952 — Talking Heads singer/songwriter David Byrne was born in Scotland.
Byrne’s impressive list of awards includes Grammy, Oscar and Golden Globe. He won all these awards in 1988, for the music of the Bernardo Bertolucci film The Last Emperor (made in 1987).
