What the bands you listen to…listen to.

Posted on March 4th 2009

I always like to wonder about what my favorite musicians listen to. It helps me discover new music and it’s also fun to find out what music inspires the musicians that have inspired me.

Every once in a while I read an interview with one of my favorite bands and they mention some albums they like.  I’ll  usually check them out and it’s amazing how many great bands I’ve found this way that  I never would have been turned on to otherwise.

Well, Amazon decided to get a whole ton of  musicians and bands to answer questions about what they like to listen to and what it is exactly they like about the music. The questions that were asked included:

“Which musicians have influenced you the most?”
“What albums do you love and think your fans should hear?”
“What CDs can’t you seem to get enough of?”

There were some very interesting responses.

Here is a list of all the artists included in the survey, a list of their favorite music and albums and the artists’ comments about the music. There is also a link from every song to the album page on amazon where you can listen to samples of the song or album and even buy the CD or download the individual (DRM-free) tracks.

I hope this list is as useful and interesting for you as it was for me!

Cool post. It’s pretty interesting to see what people listen to. Now we just need someone to interpret all of this data and decide how much an artist’s listening habits influence their music itself.

Very little on this list that I actually listen to. Seems like Amazon had a hard time getting quality bands to participate.

You hardly have any good musicians up there.
