You go to a bar, listen to some tunes and you feel like having a few drinks. Pretty normal, right? Well, as it turns out, the louder the music, the more you will likely drink.
There is a lot of research that shows that ambient music in a bar makes you drink more, and that faster music makes you drink more, but a study by some researchers in France shows a link between the volume of the music and drinking.
Researchers studied the drinking habit of bar clientele over a period of time and at a number of bars – they varied the volume of the music (with the bar’s permission of course!) and tracked the consumption of beer drinkers.
The study surmises that this phenomenon might be caused by 2 different effects: a) Loud music causes a greater arousal or excitement, which leads to more drinking; and b) louder music results in less social talking (because it’s harder to hear), which results in more drinking.
The study will be published in a research paper in October.
and of course if you have to shout your throat gets dry quickly 😀
