We got a lot of positive feedback on our Can You Hear Like a Teenager? article, and it inspired us to take it just a little bit further.
Check your hearing with a list of tones that go from 8Hz all the way up to 22,000Hz. It’s fairly common for people who are over 25 years of age to not be able to hear above 15kHz and also experience some level of hearing loss or hearing damage such as tinnitus. This online test will help you find out where your high frequency hearing cuts off.
Musicians have a much higher risk of hearing loss that most people do, and many of us don’t really wear proper hearing protection. Even just listening to an iPod for an extended period of time can permanently damage your hearing. We also gradually lose our high-frequency hearing as we age.
Take our online hearing test: listen to each of these tones and let us know where your hearing cuts out. Make sure to turn the volume down on your headphones or speakers and gradually turn them up to a safe level.

Importance of Hearing Protection
If you’re around loud music a lot like I am, or if you are experiencing some hearing loss, IÂ highly recommend getting a pair of hearing protection earplugs.
The Etymotic earlplugs don’t muffle the sound like conventional earplugs – they basically give you the same frequency response as without, but with a bit lower volume. If I wear them out to a club, they also help me carry on a conversation without yelling. Etymotic earbuds are also great in that they isolate your ear so you don’t have to turn up the volume as much on your MP3 player (ambient noise is one of the biggest reasons we turn up the volume). I love mine.
21 and can hear the speakers react to the 19 but not the sound :P. i could hear 18 through, but i think this test crashed my hearing more than most loud music ive been listening to XD
14, 1500 hz
I’m 20, almost 21, and can BARELY hear 18…
34 years. Can hear up to 22K.
First try on some HP computers which has a joke of a internal speaker. Can only go up to 17Khz.
At home, with onboard nforce2 soundcard (was considered middle-end 5years ago) can go up to 22khz. Using speakers or headphones.
So, yes: sounboard and speakers are important. Also the fact that I dont listen to loud music :). And another thing: when I was little, some people called me Jumbo 😀
I’m thirty-eight and I can hear up to 17 KHz. I live in a bustling city (NY). I am really sensitive to low-frequency noises and they always distract me from voices and things higher.
im 12and cant hear past 18
15 and i can hear all of them 😀 considering im always listening to loud music through earphones im quite happy
33 years old and 15kHz
I’m 3 years old and can hear them all!
xD
I’m 16 and I can barely hear 15
I’m 37 and I can hear 15 but not 16.
i can hear all of them mine is like that of a wulfe
doesn’t it also depend on your computer’s ability to generate such sound? and the quality of the loudspeakers?
I got different results with different computers/speakers/headphones. I am 51. With headphones on my laptop, I heard everything. With just the speakers, I couldn’t hear 17kHz, but could hear everything else. With a desktop computer, I couldn’t hear anything over 15Khz. Part of this has to do with the computer configurations. Everybody try with headphones and see if your results change.
I’m 16 years old and if I turn my speakers up I can hear even 22kHz! But I’ve got a problem with 20kHz, I can’t hear it. Everything is allright but 20kHz 😀 What?!
I heard 14 and ‘felt’ 15. there are some people who say they get a ‘dead’ zone around 15 or 16 but can hear 18-20. Well, they are tricking themselves; what they are hearing is an artifact. I can hear it too; its obviously lower than even 14.
im 14 and i can hear up to 19kHz
I’m 19 and (after turning up the volume on my computer because I keep it at 10%) I could hear up to 19Hz… at least before my laptop made a sound that tends to mean “Stop doing that if you still want to listen to music on me EVER, idiot!”
30 years. 17 kHz.
I am 50 and i can hear up to 16khz.
im 17 and i can hear up to and including 21, this is good yes?
I’m 18 and i could hear up to 19, bearly 20.
I’m just 24 and I can only hear just hear 18….I’m a musician and it’s says musicians loose their hearing! Guess I must be going deaf!
I’m a 19 year old pianist/vocalist, and appropriately, I can hear 19 clear as a whistle, but nothing further.
I’m 17 and I can’t even hear 14. Next purchase will definitely be those ear plugs…
I’m 15 and the last one I could hear was 15. I’m scared. :[
I am 72 and I cold not hear anything or else my speakers are broken
I’m 27 and I can listen til 19khz and this is good to burn your speakers… lol
Hi there.
31 years old, I can hear up to 17KHz both sides and 18KHz on the right side ear only, apparently.
Been playing drums a bit, signing, listening to music all my life, everyday. I work as a boilermaker and experience loud noise as a daily routine. I wear earplugs about 75% of the time.
Having a lot of deaf ancestors in my family, I guess I’m blessed with my good hearing and will make sure I protect this precious attribute.
I’m 60 and cannot hear any of them; didn’t think I was deaf?
I’m 17 and I cannot clearly hear above 17 but I can feel my ears picking up the pitches and vibrating with those frequencies all the way up to 22.
I’m 24 and can hear up to 20Khz.
I wear headphones a lot but keep them at a low volume.
Hey guys, if you can’t hear some of the tones don’t get nervous. On my computer, I hear every sound perfect but, on my wife’s laptop, nothing past 18 is really clear. Your computer’s sound card plays a HUGE role in your speakers or headphones picking up all the sounds clearly.
i can hear all the way up to 18 and im a 14 year old but my dad who is 48 cant even hear 12
I’m 20 and I can’t hear past 15! Uhoh!!
Had My headphones in full blast, clicked 8KHz and i am pretty sure that goosed my ears completely haha
19 and cant hear past 18KHz,
I can hear up to 15 fine. I can faintly sense 16, 17 and 18 if turned up, but can hear 19 fairly well.
i am 18 and take good care of my ears and pride in my hearing lol but i can hear them all if i turn my speakers all the way up. also im wearing headphones or (earbuds).
wow i suck at life im 13 and couldn’t hear past 18… probably cuz i listen to too much hardcore metal -_-‘
34 can only hear 8 and 10. Just recently acquired tinnitus in left ear from listening to headphones too loud! Not good…..
As an [avid user] of both my musical instruments and of my iPod volume, i wasn’t really surprised that i didn’t get past 18khZ. Im only 17 too.
im 14 and i only got to 17 kHz
Im only 13 and i can only hear up to 10
I’m 24 and could hear 19khz (barely). Someone mentioned about a soundcard and testing by recording the output with a mic. Some mic’s don’t record that frequency either so you’d have to get a good mic too. And you certainly need good speakers or headphones that you know play those frequencies.
Also if you’re not a teenager and can’t hear like one it makes sense. You lose 2Khz off the top every 10yrs naturally. Any other loss is damage.

i’m 18 and i got 19! prettyy goood
im deaf and i took this test =P
I’m about to turn 16 and i heard each any everyone. The 22 kHz i could hear pretty easily it wasn’t that faint. Is that normal? :S
I am 25 and I can’t hear past 15. That means I am where I am supposed to be.
WTF??!
I’m 16 and take great care of my hearing and can’t even hear past 16!!
This makes me angry >___<
I often drive with my window down, which I believe is what has caused minor hearing loss in my left ear. I’ve noticed the loss in other contexts. On this test I could hear to 15 (left ear) and 17 (right ear). I’m 31.
